| Acid Rain - Year round, 1/2 day Jr-Ad | ||||||||
|
This program provides an in-depth look at acidification of Ontario’s lakes. The collection and testing of water samples from several sources for pH and alkalinity is a central focus. As well, the chemistry and the sources of acid rain are highlighted with discussion about how we all contribute to acid deposition. The participants will discuss solutions to the problem and may visit an acidified lake, weather and time permitting.

Murky Waters - Year round, 1/2 day Jr-Ad |

|
Learn about the problems and causes of eutrophication (nutrient enrichment of bodies of water). Participants will be involved in the collection and testing of water samples for dissolved oxygen and phosphates. Discussions will centre on septic systems, human contribution to nutrient enrichment and possible remediation strategies. Out to Learn recommends participants bring water samples for testing to add further relevancy.

| Lakes in Winter - Jan 1 - April 1, 1/2 day Jr-Ad | ||||||||
|
Participants will study the fascinating world of lakes in winter through a series of activities including a lake turn-over demonstration, water sampling and testing, measuring and evaluating lake ice, examination of ice crystallography, and temperature profiling. Changes in the ecology of lakes during winter will be highlighted. |
